Keeping Your Travel Plans Flexible

Editor’s note: Today’s post is from veteran travelers Margo and Mike.  Read on to see why flexible travel plans are a good idea!

A few years ago, Mike and I went on a trip to the East Coast.

Before we left we set up reservations for many different places.  Among them was a Bed and Breakfast in Bar Harbor, Maine. Neither of us had ever tried a bed and breakfast, but we had heard great things about them. We decided to try one.

The big mistake was booking seven days in a place we had not seen!

Yes, it was nice, but the room was VERY small. There was a bed and a bathroom, but no table or chairs. While we were there, it rained a large portion of the time and it was cold a foggy. Hence, we were in our room quite a bit. Although we were fine and still enjoyed our trip, a larger room with some chairs would have been perfect!

Always view your accommodations on-line ahead of time – especially if you plan to stay several days. Additionally, the B&B would not refund our money so it is always nice to find a flexible place as well.

Have you ever been locked into travel plans that didn’t work for you?
