Married with Luggage goes national

Next time you’re in the grocery store checkout line, look for First for Women Magazine.  You may even read it already since their circulation is over 1.5 million readers.

I am featured in the magazine’s Recipes for Living section in the April 20 edition.  The story idea is about a recipe that makes me feel close to my family since we live apart.

The recipe I chose is Taco Soup, and my mom and I both make it regularly.  We usually call each other to chat while cooking, and since it makes a big batch I always think of her as I take my frozen containers out for dinner weeks after I make a big batch.

Once we start traveling around the world, this will be an easy recipe for me to make on those homesick days, and I love sharing our story along with a delicious recipe to other busy families who live far apart.  It is also an inexpensive recipe, which makes it even more appealing these days.

The magazine set up a photo shoot for me here in Seattle with a great photographer, Jim Linna.  His wife Patty was kind enough to take “behind the scenes” pictures after I told her I was going to blog about this, and I even got to hear a travel story from the stylist Gretchen, whose in-laws are currently sailing around the word.

Please be sure to pick up a copy of the magazine on April 20.  Not only will you get the recipe and pictures of this delicious soup, you get pictures of my sweet mom from her own photo shoot in New Mexico.

Are you wondering how to get your own bit of publicity for your business/book/self?  Sign up for HARO for daily queries from journalists all over the country, and check out Main Street Media Savvy for some do-it-yourself publicity training on how to pitch to them.  These are my go-to resources for DIY publicity and worth their weight in gold.
