Oh my gosh! This is so unexpected…and I didn’t even write a speech! First of all, I’d like to thank my mom…
Excuse me for a moment. I was in Academy Award mode and picturing myself as I would look if I had a stylist. The reason for my daydreaming? I was just given the Superior Scribbler Award by one of my favorite bloggers, Angela Barton at My Year Without Spending.
The award was started by The Superior Scribbler and is presented by bloggers to bloggers to demonstrate the blogs they like the best. Now it is my turn to list 5 blogs I admire and why (not including the already mentioned My Year Without Spending). I’m going to stick with travel blogs instead of some of my guilty favorites like Perez Hilton.
- Almost Fearless is the story of a couple like us who make travel their lifestyle. They travel together, separately, and with friends, and their life always sounds fascinating. Christine writes about travel from the practical standpoint (gear reviews), from a political standpoint (wanna know how to get to Cuba under the radar?), and from a human standpoint. I think I like her misadventures almost as much as her adventures. You can also follow her on Twitter.
- Brooke writes the Business Backpacker blog, and she has a great “just do it!” attitude about travel. My favorite recent post is called Put Your Crap in a Hefty Bag and Buy a Plane Ticket, Already! Brooke left her white picket fence life for one with travel, and she hasn’t looked back. I love how she makes the case for traveling on a small budget and making a living of just enough to enjoy life. Hey, she’s the one working on a beach in Thailand while we’re stuck in offices and cubicles, so I’d say she’s on to something. Follow her on Twitter.
- JetSetCitizen is packed full of interviews with travelers and location-independent business owners. Blogger John Bardos and his wife have lived in Japan for several years and own an English language school. Their goal is to become location independent within one year, and he writes a lot about business and technology as it relates to living a life of travel. Find out what a Jet Set Citizen is by clicking here. Follow him on Twitter.
- Paula’s Tour Talk focuses specifically on Italy, and because Paula’s background is in art history and she is an avid reader, you also get a lot of background information not in the guidebooks. She takes small groups of women on personalized tours of Italy through her Time of Your Life Tours company. I dream of the day when I can sip prosecco on Lake Como with her! Also check out her series on the Italian locations in the movie Angels and Demons – much better than the film! Follow her on Twitter.
- Two Backpackers is a fairly new blog about 2 people getting ready to do the same thing as us – though they are going now! It has been fun to watch them in the last stages of preparation before leaving, and I can’t wait to read their first posts on the road. Jason just wrote about his last week of work. Follow them on Twitter.
To keep this award moving around the interwebs, there are a few suggestions:
1. Each Superior Scribber should in turn pass the award on to 5 most-deserving bloggy friends.
2. Each Superior Scribber should link to the author and the name of the blog from whom he/she has received the award.
3. Each Superior Scribber can display the award on his/her blog, and link to this post, which explains the award.
4. Each blogger who wins the Superior Scribbler Award should visit this post and add his/her name to the Mr. Linky list. That way, we’ll be able to keep up-to-date on everyone who wins this prestigious honor.
In closing, I would like to thank my English teacher, Mrs. Sparkman. She would be so proud!

Thanks for including me on this list Betsy! Most appreciated.
Hi, John. You didn’t even give me a chance to tell you about it – now that is Jet Set! I hope our readers enjoy your blog as much as we do.
You deserve every award you get, Mrs. Talbot! Seriously, this blog is blooming into something really amazing – congrats!
Thanks, Karen! We are having more fun these days than ever. It really made the difference when Warren was able to tell his boss about our plans and now everything is out in the open. Yahoo!
Thanks Betsy! And I hadn’t seen businessbackpacker before, thanks for turning me on to it!
