Hi Janet,
It is wonderful to hear from you. It is so exciting when we meet new people who are taking the steps necessary to follow their dream, whether it be travel or starting a business. Sounds like you have big plans ahead and I am looking forward to following along. It will be interesting to see how you can combine your travel with passion for teaching creativity. I think this is a wonderful idea and will be thinking about the possibilities.

By the way, we may be heading to New Zealand next year so would love to stay in touch to meet in person if possible.

Great website. I am going on a trip to Europe in 2013 and saving fast. it is quite normal for New Zealanders to travel extensively overseas and give up their day jobs. I am an artist and art teacher and would loike to go around the world teaching people to be creative.
Live the dream/ Cheers janet

Hi Betsy & Warren! Thanks for including us in your list of resources. We started Briefcase to Backpack after we realized the rest of the world was embracing the idea of career break travels and it's something more Americans should be doing. We're happy to have you join the cultural revolution! And we look forward to following along on your journey.

And hopefully our stories and those of others can help you throughout the process - not just the decision making, but the preparation, adapting to life on the road, and the re-entry process. And we're sure that you will have some of your own advice to share!

We're adding you to our list of career break travel blogs and look forward to following you on Twitter!

Cheers,
Michaela

Congratulations on making the decision! We always tell people that the hardest thing we've done on our trip around the world is hand in our notice at work. At the time, our family and friends thought we were crazy - we had good, secure jobs and a comfortable lifestyle in Prague, Czech Republic. Like you, we realized that life was short and we didn't want to look back on it with regret. And, 2.5+ years later...no regrets.
