Friday Chit Chat

You know how you get together with a friend and you don’t have any really big stories to tell about your life but you have about a hundred little ones?  And how much fun it is catching up with each other over the small things?

Well, that’s how I’m feeling these days.  Several thoughts below that are not quite big enough for a blog post and not quite small enough for Twitter.  So we’re going to hodge-podge this together into a Friday post and then come back next week with a surprise video on Tuesday followed by a return to our regularly scheduled programming.

  • Have you ever wanted to write a book?  I’ve been saying this for years, and recently I read a post from a screenwriter who said “writers write, and hacks complain about why they can’t write.”  Ahem.  Well, that statement was a little too close to home, so I’ve signed up for the 3-Day Novel contest over Labor Day Weekend.  In 3 days I expect to deliver a 100-page rough draft of a novel.  This is one of those “bucket list” things for me that I keep putting off.  If I’m all about designing my own lifestyle, then why the heck am I not writing?  Time to put walk with the talk.  Is this your passion?  Wanna join me?
  • Next month I’ll be in Redbook magazine in an article about making friends in adulthood.  I’m really excited about it because this is a topic many people struggle with.  After making several moves to places where I didn’t know a soul, I learned a thing or two about meeting people and finding friends.  I’ll share those tips with you when the article comes out, and if they include a picture of me you’ll get to see what I look like in an actual posed photograph when I’m not wearing a t-shirt and a fleece jacket.
  • Now that we’ve moved the blog to WordPress we can take advantage of Gravatar, which allows commenters to use their pictures when posting.  When you sign up for Gravatar your email address is tied to your picture, and any Gravatar-enabled blog will be able to display your picture next to your comments.  It is a really great way of “branding” your comments and letting people identify you better.  If you are interested in signing up, click here.

That’s it for today’s chit chat.  What kind of things have you been wanting to share?  Travel ideas, gadgets, links, news about you…come on, I’d love to hear it!
