You know, I've actually been seated next to quite a few monkeys in my travels, Cornelius. I wonder if we've met before and just forgot to exchange names? :)

Such difficulty for us animals to travel. I usually just purchase my own ticket, it's much easier that way -less confusion and no leash needed.

Christine, thanks for the tip on the cubes. I'm actually surfing REI right now for their sale and trying to stock up on the things we need when we can get the best prices. I love my day pack, and I use it quite a bit just in everyday life. I'm sure it will be handy on the road.

Thanks for the recommendation on the cubes - going to check them out right now!

oh my goodness, I just saw that we have the exact same backpack---mine's burgundy--the one in your photo!!! that is so wild---you will love it!!! I have mine down to 12 kg and it is so manageable. The zippered compartment is the best--we see these packs that are top loading and I think 'what a nightmare' because you are always having to take everything out to find something. Plus, I like being able to take my day pack on the bus, plane or train as it contains my computer, etc. Also, something that you might want to consider--cubes (eagle creek)---can't live without them--I have one for shirts, one for dresses and long sleeves and one for shorts and pants and they fit so well in our packs (Paul has the man's version)...plus one for toiletries--the last thing you want is to accidently leave something behind because it's loose (we've learned the hard way). Anyways, I hope I'm not giving you too much information, just excited because we have so much in common.

I received an email from a reader through our contact page, but she neglected to include her email address. So I'm going to answer her question about traveling overseas with multiple pets in the cabin here.

You should check with the airline before your book. Your friend who said she was able to put her second pet under the next seat was incredibly lucky. I don't know of many people who would give up that precious leg room on a long overseas flight. I'm also not sure how many years ago your friend flew with 2 pets, because everything I read on even domestic flights stated only one pet per passenger and usually only 4 pets total in the cabin of a plane.

Good luck on your international trip with your pets. Just be sure to check out all the rules before you get to the airport!

Funny, we got in shape with diet and exercise before we left on our career break and 7 months later (and still on the road) we are so blubbery from all of our eating. Seems like everywhere we go, we want to try everything and we forget that travel food has calories too. You would think that hiking a lot would do the trick but I guess you have to hike daily and we don't. At any rate, we are fat and happily traveling. Isn't that what it's all about. Just found your website via briefcase to backpack--looking forward to keeping up with your adventures....enjoy!!!
