Keeping up with the Talbots (it is quite easy!)

Jeff over at Career Break Secrets asked us some really great questions about our trip so far, including what we find quirky about each other’s travel habits and the thing we wished we hadn’t bothered to pack. If you like those kind of details and want an insight into how the trip is changing our relationship, be sure to check out the “Who’s Out There?” interview on his blog.

Coming up on the blog

We just finished a 4-day trek in Northern Peru and saw gorgeous landscape, pre-Incan ruins, and met friendly Peruvians who are happy to share the wonders of their country. It was an amazing (but very difficult) experience. Look for the post and Warren’s terrific pictures later this week.

Finding out more

Several of you have sent emails asking about specific plans and what we’re doing. We do our best to keep you updated via Facebook on a somewhat daily basis (just click “like” to have it show up in your feed), on the blog for more in-depth perspectives and photos, and in general with our calendar page of daily activities as well as the overall map of places we have seen and want to see. And for those of you who send in suggestions of where to go and what to do - we love getting recommendations. We’ll add them to the map as we get them.

Staying in touch

Last but not least, we love hearing from you in comments and emails. Please note that we sometimes don’t have internet for a few days at a time and can’t always respond right away, but we will always get back to you as soon as we can.

Thanks again for tagging along on our trip (but hey, can you start carrying some of the luggage?). :)

Hi guys - heard about your site through someone who worked at Microsoft. Very cool what you guys are doing. We’re planning on leaving ourselves for a one-year-off rtw trip. Love the blog!

    • Thanks, Jenni. Stay tuned for some of Warren’s upcoming posts and interviews on what it is like to leave your career for a trip like this. You are going to have a great time on your trip!

Great interview! Can’t wait to hear more about your trek!

    • Yes, Jeff is a great interviewer.

We are almost done with the post - it is always hard to decide how much “we did this and that” and how much “this is what it feels like” should go into a post like that before it turns into a novella. :)

  3. Great interview and good information. I was wondering if you could elaborate on what you brought with you that was not worth packing and things you wish you would have brought. I am totally curious as I am sure others are who are looking at taking a long trip. Even though we have purged and purged…I am still nervous about that final pack being what we need.

    • Hi, Paz. We have already finished a post on what we love in our backpacks, what we’ve left behind on our journeys, and what we wished we had never packed. It will come out next week.

It really is an ongoing process depending on the weather and location. One thing I will say now is that you can buy almost everything you need on the road, so don’t stress out too much about what you need before you leave. Better to travel with less and buy what’s missing when you need it than lug around a bunch of crap you’ll never use.
