Share your money-saving tips to win $500

A lot of our readers are interested in the frugal life - spending less than they earn, being responsible with resources, and being environmentally conscious. It just makes sense, whether you are traveling around the world or across town to your job every day. And with the lessons from the economic downturn still fresh in everyone’s minds, we are all looking for smart ways to use our money to live the good life.

If you are interested in personal finance, you should check out Get Rich Slowly, a blog by JD Roth. Each week he provides helpful advice and how-to’s on personal finance, and on Sundays he features a story from a reader on how he or she saved money or turned around their finances. You’ll hear from people in all walks of life, and learning by example (good or bad) is a pretty effective education.

Check out a few of these posts (and be sure to read the comments):

How I ruined my credit score, and how it didn’t ruin my life

Rental properties for the average Joe

Budgeting for a lifestyle change

The Contest

JD Roth has just announced this Video Contest to his readers.

I want you to create videos of under two minutes in length that provide personal-finance info in one of two categories: Personal Finance Tips or Success Stories. You can use anything you want to record the videos, and you can be as creative (or non-creative) as you’d like to be.

He’s awarding $500 for the winner in each category, and runners up receive copies of his new book. I’ve heard from many of you and know you have some great tips and success stories to share.

So get out your Flip camera, cell phone, or giant old camcorder and let the world know your story. We all benefit when we share our experiences with others.

Here is the post with the contest rules. We’ll be entering and hope you will, too!
