Well, we did it. Everything has been moved out, the house is cleaned, and we are situated in our new place. We ended up taking more with us than I wanted, but we have 136 days left to get rid of those few things.
The love and support we’ve had from friends and family and even occasional strangers has been mind-blowing. People love to see you go after your dreams, and 99% of them will help you in any way you can.
A big thanks to all of you for your comments, emails, Facebook and Twitter messages, and even occasional phone calls and showing up in person to do nice things. Life really is good, and we are so happy to be over this last big chore before our big trip.

I kept thinking your home buyers wanted to buy the stuff in your house too. Did I make that up or did something change?
They bought much of the furniture and thanks to our friends/family we ended up selling all the rest. We just ended up a more odds & ends than we expected that did not make it onto CraigsList yet. We have about 2 car loads of things now and expected it to be only 1.
The good news for me is I get to spend more time with my friend and trusty companion - CraigsList. I have an unhealthy obsession with that site.
I do too - buying and selling.
Wow! I almost cried myself seeing your house empty so I can only imagine what you must be feeling. What a great accomplishment (and you should have called us if you needed more movers this weekend!) This really is a major milestone and probably more than anything else makes this whole thing “real” for you both. Congrats!
A huge thank you for all the support from all of you as we prepared the last year to sell our house. It was a huge step and we are delighted to have it completed. Now we can focus on spending the next few months enjoying time with our friends and completing the last things on our Seattle Wish List.
Just think, one year from now you will be old pros at packing up all your worldly belongings and moving to your next destination as you will have done it many times. Enjoy your last days in wonderful Seattle!!!
Despite all the preparations, packing, de-cluttering, and selling of stuff move out day hit me pretty hard as one of the “wow this is really happening” milestones.
On an unrelated note, we have a barely used steri-pen if you want it.
Danielle, I think I went through that a week or so before when our cat had to change homes unexpectedly. Things don’t always go according to plan, and I think that moment just represented everything and I actually went to bed for a few hours and pulled the covers over my head. I just wanted to hit the pause button (but there isn’t one). Thankfully it passed, and now that we are out I’m feeling nothing but peace and happiness.
Thanks for the offer on the steri-pen - we actually bought one already. Anyone else need one? You can click on Danielle’s name and get a link to her site for contact info.
