Today is Valentine’s Day, and we are not impressed.

Not one little bit.

We might get hate mail from Hallmark and Victoria’s Secret for saying it, but we don’t think one day a year is enough to show your partner how much you love each other. Especially if that one day is the highlight of your romantic year.

We’re gluttons for love. We want it 365 days a year.

So in honor of the 50 Shades of Grey movie opening this weekend, we’re going to tell you how our Annual Love Contract…

1. We know what thrills us.

You know how? Because we told each other. Whether it’s in the bedroom, the kitchen, or in our work, this Annual Love Contract allows us spell out exactly what curls our toes, warms our hearts, fills our bellies, and enhances our productivity. Those little things we love get magnified because we appreciate them and ask for them.

We know what works, and work it.

2. We say what chills us.

It’s not all rainbows and sunshine. Little and big things happen to diminish the shine of love. Stupid habits and remarks, negative influences, and just plain laziness over time. When we call out these trends at our Annual Love Contract review, we’re utilizing our Safe Word. “This action is not enjoyable to me.” And if it affects one of us, it affects our relationship.

We know what’s not working, and we experiment until we get it right.

3. We give our consent.

Yes, I want to be with you for another year. Yes, our problems exist, and this is how we will improve them. Yes, I want to build a stronger future with you.
