We are on a repositioning cruise with the M/S Expedition from Gap Adventures, and we have 37 days to get from the southern tip of Argentina to Falmouth, England. What in the heck are we going to do during that time? Well, we brainstormed a list of things to do and included a little video at the end that we made with the crew. We have included the first 37, and would like you all to provide your suggestions. Let us know in the comments your recommendations of what we should do and we’ll pick the top 5 and do them before we leave the ship (if it is legal/physically possible, that is. We know we have to put these disclaimers in for some of you guys…)
- Visit the bridge and learn the stories of the officers
- Steer the ship!
- Test every cure for seasickness you’ve ever heard
- Sample every drink that Garnet, our bartender, can make. We are trying to live up to this one.
- Learn to cook in a ship’s galley thanks to Chef Tony
- Count the stars on a clear night. It is more than we have ever seen.
- Have sex and take advantage of the “motion of the ocean”
- Picnic on the deck
- Write a manifesto. Seriously, the world needs more manifestos.
- Learn to play a musical instrument in the hope of joining Albert, Garnet, Darwin, Lawrence, and Gary in the Expedition band
- Learn dirty words in every foreign language spoken on the ship
- Clog up your Facebook and Twitter feeds with details of our journey
- Watch a beautiful sunrise every morning
- Take a nap in the afternoon to make up for your early morning sunrise
- Read books in the library
- Hey, at this rate we probably have time to WRITE a book
- Exercise in the gym at least once (we like to set the bar low on this one)
- Tour the engine room to find out how the ship works
- Make plans for our next destination (we have a complete Lonely Planet library here)
- Get a tan
- Figure out all the functions in the steam/sauna/shower in our room
- Enjoy a different delicious meal from Chef Tony every night
- Karaoke after hours with the crew (first see #4)
- Learn to meditate
- Watch a gorgeous sunset every night
- Help the crew paint the ship
- Fly a kite (or a t-shirt if you forgot a kite)
- Learn to cook at least one of Chef Tony’s recipes
- Write poetry (and yes, limericks count!)
- Make lasting friendships
- Learn to drive a zodiac (still working on convincing the crew this is a good idea)
- Eat more food than we thought possible and leave room for cookies at tea time
- Learn to crochet
- Reflect on 6 months without a home
- Take interesting pictures around the ship
- Imagine the lives of explorers who did this journey over 200 years ago (without the Internet)
- Get to know the stories of the crew
