37 things to do on a long boat trip

We are on a repositioning cruise with the M/S Expedition from Gap Adventures, and we have 37 days to get from the southern tip of Argentina to Falmouth, England. What in the heck are we going to do during that time? Well, we brainstormed a list of things to do and included a little video at the end that we made with the crew. We have included the first 37, and would like you all to provide your suggestions. Let us know in the comments your recommendations of what we should do and we’ll pick the top 5 and do them before we leave the ship (if it is legal/physically possible, that is. We know we have to put these disclaimers in for some of you guys…)

  1. Visit the bridge and learn the stories of the officers
  2. Steer the ship!
  3. Test every cure for seasickness you’ve ever heard
  4. Sample every drink that Garnet, our bartender, can make. We are trying to live up to this one.
  5. Learn to cook in a ship’s galley thanks to Chef Tony
  6. Count the stars on a clear night. It is more than we have ever seen.
  7. Have sex and take advantage of the “motion of the ocean”
  8. Picnic on the deck
  9. Write a manifesto. Seriously, the world needs more manifestos.
  10. Learn to play a musical instrument in the hope of joining Albert, Garnet, Darwin, Lawrence, and Gary in the Expedition band
  11. Learn dirty words in every foreign language spoken on the ship
  12. Clog up your Facebook and Twitter feeds with details of our journey
  13. Watch a beautiful sunrise every morning
  14. Take a nap in the afternoon to make up for your early morning sunrise
  15. Read books in the library
  16. Hey, at this rate we probably have time to WRITE a book
  17. Exercise in the gym at least once (we like to set the bar low on this one)
  18. Tour the engine room to find out how the ship works
  19. Make plans for our next destination (we have a complete Lonely Planet library here)
  20. Get a tan
  21. Figure out all the functions in the steam/sauna/shower in our room
  22. Enjoy a different delicious meal from Chef Tony every night
  23. Karaoke after hours with the crew (first see #4)
  24. Learn to meditate
  25. Watch a gorgeous sunset every night
  26. Help the crew paint the ship
  27. Fly a kite (or a t-shirt if you forgot a kite)
  28. Learn to cook at least one of Chef Tony’s recipes
  29. Write poetry (and yes, limericks count!)
  30. Make lasting friendships
  31. Learn to drive a zodiac (still working on convincing the crew this is a good idea)
  32. Eat more food than we thought possible and leave room for cookies at tea time
  33. Learn to crochet
  34. Reflect on 6 months without a home
  35. Take interesting pictures around the ship
  36. Imagine the lives of explorers who did this journey over 200 years ago (without the Internet)
  37. Get to know the stories of the crew
