Episode 91 comes to you from chilly southern Spain. So many people get wrapped up in making a living from their passions, but that’s not always possible. So they give up entirely. This is true for music, painting, writing, sports, etc. But you can have it both ways…and today’s guest is living proof.
Find out where the joy resides, and give it a voice far beyond singing. For to miss the joy is to miss all.” ~ Robert Louis Stevenson
Show Notes
Do you have to give up your passions if they can’t pay the bills?
Many people opt for security over the unknown very early in the game, giving up on the music, sports, dance, art, invention, or writing that our younger selves wanted to devote our lives to. It’s almost as if we refuse to give time and attention to a passion if it cannot also make money.
But what happens when you keep that passion in your life for years or decades, never counting on it to make your mortgage payment? There’s a different kind of richness that comes from maintaining your interests over a lifetime, and that’s the subject of today’s show.
We are pleased to have John Parsons join us on the show. He might best be described as a ‘restless creative’. For the past 25 years, he has traveled parallel career paths, vocationally and avocationally. On the business side, he’s been a copywriter, a business development professional, an agency partner/owner, and a creative director. Meanwhile, he’s pursued his passions in music, voiceover work, and film acting, which you can read more about at JohnParsons.com.

Next week we’re telling you about our week-long digital detox. Usually we go to a mountain or leave our laptops behind to make a detox easier, but this time we did it from our house in Spain. Did we cheat on our detox? Learn any big lessons? You’ll have to tune in and find out.
